Our Santorini packing checklist will help you make the best of your holiday in Santorini, a unique dream destination for a honeymoon or a romantic break, with views of the volcanic landscapes that will have you picking up your jaw off the floor again and again! Read on…
Camera – Santorini is renowned for being one great big photo opportunity. Mobile phone cameras have come a long way, but to capture some seriously professional looking pictures you need a dedicated camera. The Nikon Coolpix P950 has optical zoom and image stabilisation, and will help take your photos to the next level.
Water Shoes – Those beaches are actually made up of tiny black pebbles of volcanic stone. The black beaches can also get very hot underfoot! You will not regret packing a pair of proper water shoes on your trip!
Binoculars – From the main island you can see other islands, including the sparsely populated island of Thirassia. On a very clear day you can sometimes even see Crete in the distance! These Steiner Safari UltraSharp binoculars will come in handy for checking out those distant sights, and are compact enough not to bulk out your luggage or your daypack.
Sun Screen – The sun in high season can be unrelentingly hot, especially as it reflects off those whitewashed walls. Don’t take any chances with your skin, go straight for factor 50 from a tried and trusted brand like Nivea, which has UVA and UVB protection.
Filtered Water Bottle – Santorini’s tap water has a high mineral content, and is not really suitable for drinking. Stay hydrated with a proper filtering water bottle as the sun beats down on you. This one from LARQ is ultra stylish in Obsidian black, and is insulated and BPA free too. It will come in handy at the airport too, as you can take it through security empty, then refill it once past the security checks, to stay hydrated on your flight.
Changing Towel – It’s likely that your hotel is not going to be slap bang on the beach, so take a changing robe to ensure you are able to change into your swimwear without the risk of any wardrobe malfunctions! The seats of your hire car will thank you too, as they are spared from your soggy bottom!
Day Pack – One of the most popular activities on the island is to hike between the two main villages Oia and Fira, enjoying majestic caldera views as you go. This daypack from Skysper has a breathable back panel and can keep all your essentials neatly packaged and easily carried.
Walking Trainers – As well as being essential for the aforementioned hiking opportunities, a good and comfortable pair of walking trainers are also an essential for the cobbled streets of the various adorable villages. This pair of ladies trainers from Karrimor should be more than up to the task.
Power Bank – An absolute essential for the plane and the airport, this portable 10,000 mAh power bank is not only hand luggage and pocket friendly with its slim build, but is actually rather stylish as power banks go!
Mobile Tripod Stand – Ah, those Santorini sunsets… the stuff of dreams! Set your phone up on this robust little tripod from well respected brand Manfrotto, and take the perfect time lapse video of the famous sunset while you and your companion enjoy a freshly made Greek salad with a glass of the local white wine.
